No Love Deep Web (stylized as NØ LØV∑ D∑∑P W∏B or simply NO LOVE DEEP WEB^[2]) is the second studio album by American group Death Grips. It was self-released by the band, online as a free download on October 1, 2012. Recorded from May to August 2012, the album exhibited what the band described as a darker and more minimal style. The album was leaked by the band due to complications over its release date with their label, Epic, who subsequently dropped them.^[3] The record was later made available for purchase via the band's own Third Worlds imprint and Harvest Records.^[1]

The album's release was met with strong attention from online media groups, largely due to its sexually explicit album cover, which features a picture of group member Zach Hill's erect, circumcised penis, with the album title written across it. The release received generally favorable reviews from critics, who praised its complexity and stripped down sound.

Master P took his music to a new level of quality on Ice Cream Man, which is his first to feature the production stable known as Beats by the Pound (i.e., KLC, Mo B. Dick, DJ Daryl, Carlos Stephens, Ken Franklin, Craig B). Themes of drugs, violence, and ghetto life are prevalent and well exploited. Released in September, 1997. Front cover reads, "The Man That Brought You Down South Hustlers, West Coast Bad Boyz and I'm Bout It Movie." This is Master P's sixth studio album.

Background

Originally slated to be titled as Ghetto Dope, the name was shortened to the current title before the release due to the drug reference in the aforementioned title. The album would be one of Master P's biggest albums.

Controversy

The original album cover, which depicted a crack addict sitting on a curb and smoking from a glass pipe, was recalled from store shelves. It was promptly replaced by the collage style cover.

Chart performance

The album became the biggest-selling of Master P's career, peaking at #1 on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts with first-week sales of 260,000 copies.^[6] It was mainly on the strength of the three singles released; "I Miss My Homies" (US #11), "Make 'Em Say Uhh!" (US #7), and "Burbons and Lacs" (US #3) all became hit singles in the years 1997 and 1998. "Gangstas Need Love" samples Diana Ross's hit single "Missing You", while "I Miss My Homies" samples The O'Jays' song "Brandy" from the albumSo Full of Love. In 2008 "Make 'Em Say Uhh!" it ranked #26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop. It ranked at #36 on Blender's list of the "50 Worst Songs Ever"^[7] In 2008, it ranked #94 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop. "Here We Go", featuring Fiendand Mystikal, was a b-side, released on the "I Miss My Homies" single. The album was certified 3x Platinum on August 4, 2006, with 3,185,221 copies sold, according to SoundScan.^[8]

B-32 - I Need A Bag Of Dope (1993)

Before skyrocketing to fame as one half of the Southern rap duo Big Tymerz, Birdman was using the name B-32, short for Baby With The 32 Golds. He had recently started an independent record label with his brother Slim, calling it Cash Money Records. Its first release was an album by Kilo G released in 1992.

In the following year he recorded and released his first album for the label, I Need A Bag Of Dope. It features guest verses by a slew of unknown southern rappers. The sound is typical early 90's bounce, recorded with analogue synths and ancient drum machines. Production is handled by Mannie Fresh, the other half of Big Tymerz, who is still producing occasional tracks for these Cash Money artists to this day. Three tracks are instrumental beat mixes he created for the record. I'm not sure if any other Cash Money albums have had this distinction.

The eight songs here aren't anything special and the release could easily be written off by most, but there are a couple catchy songs here and it's an interesting document concerning how the biggest record label in modern hip-hop got its start.
